American Airlines is ditching seatback screens in its new planes

In-flight boredom can often be soothed by the screen planted on the seat before you. But that small luxury will soon be nixed from a set of new jets from American Airlines.

Instead, the company said, passengers can just bring their laptops, phones and other gadgets if they need a little entertainment on the journey.

100 new Boeing 737 Max jets debuting on routes later in 2017 won't have any screens because, according to American Airlines, they're just not needed any more.
